Lost In The Black Hole

Today was a big day for me.

If you've been living in a cave, allow me to fill you in on the big goings on today.
OS X Leopard was released.

The wife and I had been planning to get a new iMac today so that we would get the latest and greatest version of OS X with it.

I get this monster (and the 24" model is in fact a monster) home and no Leopard. I got the cool T-shirt on. I got the cool keyboard and mighty mouse thing going. But no Leopard.

After calling the Apple store from whence I purchased said monster, the manager helpfully offers to provide me a copy tomorrow when they open.

No fuss. No muss. Just come in, find "Mindy" (I've changed the name to protect the helpful), and I'm out the door again with a copy of Leopard.

My unit got 'missed'. But that could happen to anybody.

But Apple customers get the benefit of a brilliantly organized retail outlet when things go wrong.

Why aren't all the other retail stores killing themselves to make the same sort of experience for their customers?
